A message from Jill Finnane: Eo-Justice Coordinator – Edmund Rice Justice Centre Sydney
Dear Friends,
In the wake of the shocking and sad Paris attacks, I wish to join the many people who are calling for solidarity and love and urging us to make sure that we have prayer in our hearts for the perpetrators as well a
the vicitms. I wish to echo the message that Phil Glendenning, the Director of the Edmund Rice Centre, expressed this morning to members of PCP’s delegation that will be leaving from Kiribati, Tuvalu and Australia to head for Paris at the end of next week:
‘I am sure you are all shocked and saddened by the events in Paris over the weekend. We are living in deeply distressing times. The thing those who take these actions desire is to see people change their behaviours, stop their normal activities and let fear dominate. In the wake of the tragedy in Paris it is clear that the COP 21 will proceed and security will be tightened obviously. It is important for the sake of our planet that the COP takes place. And it is important for the sake of PCP that we be there. So to Paris we go.’ Phil Glendenning
I wish to once again thank the organisations and individuals that have contributed towards the costs of taking Pacific Islanders to this crucial meeting in Paris.
Jill
